“Yes, they do have somethnig built in to detect if you are using a non-Dell battery, ergo you would not receive messages like “Battery cannot be identified” at boot up, and a warning that the system won’t charge the dell laptop battery. It is simply a ploy to ensure users buy Dell batteries at their inflated price. It’s also known as anti-competitive behaviour in the business world.

Just so you know, they incorporate the same system with the power adaptor. If you use a non-Dell one, it will state that it cannot determine the power adaptor type and then let you know that the laptop will run slowly and will not carge your battery. Another way to make sure you behave and buy only Dell spares. Incidentally, with the adaptor it knows if it’s a Dell one because Dell use the centre pin of the adaptor jack connector to send a 2.5V ID signal to the laptop. The positive and negative of the 19V supply is on the inside and outside of the metal barrel of the jack plug. Internal pin is solely for ID signal.

I’m afraid the only recourse is to purchase a Dell adaptor if you wish for the laptop battery to charge. I’d recommend a second-hand one from eBay. Try to buy the highest wattage one you can.”

Did you try removing the laptop battery and cleaning the connectors on the laptop? Also follow the steps and check if it is charging.

Remove the battery and power cord.
Hold the power button for a little more than 30 seconds
Connect the battery
Connect the power cord and turn on the external power
Turn on the PC
Now wait for a while and check if it is charging.
If the charging light comes on, leave in the charging mode for around 3 hours. Now follow the steps

Restart into safe mode.
When you get into windows, note the time and disconnect the external power source.
Wait until the PC shuts down.
Note down the time.
The difference is the battery backup time. If it is greater than 1.5 hours, your hp dv5 battery is good. Else you need to take your Laptop to a HP service center to get the connectors checked."

I haven’t done too much testing yet, but from my initial usage I am seeing around 2 hours with general usage (browsing the Internet, using messengers, doing a video chat for maybe 30 mins) There are settings to change between conserving power and system performance so you can adapt it to what you like.

I imagine with Power saving mode on and light usage it will get over 2 hours (but not near 3 hours) with High Performance mode and heavy usage (photoshop, gaming especially) you would probably get an hour maybe 1 1/2 hrs.

besides those laptop battery issues this is a wonderful computer and I’m very impressed. It runs very fast and speeds through everything I’ve thrown at it (Including large photoshop files that take my desktop over 30 seconds to even load)

First, a little bit of background information:
I purchased this hp dv6500 battery, because I needed a replacement for the (now defective) battery that came with my laptop. The battery that came with the laptop (OEM battery) started off with about a two hour battery life and over the course of a year that number dropped to about five minutes worth of battery power. This was my own fault, as I did not know that leaving the laptop plugged in constantly would do substantial harm to the battery’s longevity.

Now, after searching for a while, I found and purchased this hp dv9500 battery because it was significantly cheaper than the replacement that HP was offering, and it seemed to be compatible with my computer (model# dv9933cl).
Here’s my analysis:
– The battery arrived on time. So I have no complaints with the company itself.
– The battery was nicely packaged and on inspection did not have any scratches, dents, etc.
– Physically, the battery fits into my laptop, but part of it sticks put. It’s very small, and unnoticeable, but it definitely sticks out of the laptop battery compartment by a few millimeters. The OEM battery did not stick out at all. But this is a minor complaint, and it does not seem to affect the computer’s performance in any way.
– The battery’s life span, after a few test runs, seems to be around one hour and fifty minutes. Not as good as the OEM battery initially was, but more than I was expecting.

After owning the hp dv6000 battery for about a month, I have no complaints. Obviously I’m being a lot more careful with the battery this time and when I have the laptop plugged to the wall, I remove the battery from the laptop in order to preserve its integrity. That way, hopefully, this battery will last much longer than the OEM battery did.
