Problem:”I noticed that my laptop battery icon was saying “plugged in, not charging”. I checked my outlet, my laptop ac adapter, the brick between the two and the port on the laptop. I have G60 235X. I spoke to an HP tech person and they told me it’s something in the computer that needs to be fixed, they said it’s a “needle” inside. Not sure. I talked to a couple more people and some had me uninstall the battery in device manager and then search for hardware changes. That worked… temporarily. My battery is fine (I did a check). I am not sure what it is. They sent out a box for me to send it to them but it’s the wrong kind of box. But I am not convinced it’s something internal. I Googled the problem and it seems that many people have it.”

Solution1:”Understanding battery charging issues

If the notebook battery is not charging or the notebook does not indicate that the hp pavilion dv6000 battery is charging, the most likely scenario is that the battery itself is operating correctly, but its power management software may have become corrupt. In order to correct the problem, you will need to uninstall and reinstall the power management software by using the Device Manager. This document will explain how to uninstall and reinstall the ACPI Battery listings in Windows Vista, as well as how to obtain and install updated BIOS files, if needed to correct other HP EliteBook 6930p battery issues.

Uninstalling and reinstalling power management software in Windows Vista

In order to correct problems with the hp 6730b battery power management software, follow the steps below.

2. Expand the Batteries category.

3. Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall .

WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft hp AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.

4. On the Device Manager taskbar, click Scan for hardware changes .

Alternately, select Action > Scan for hardware changes .

Windows will scan your computer for hardware that doesn’t have drivers installed, and will install the drivers needed to manage your battery’s power. The notebook should now indicate that the battery is charging.”

This document pertains to HP Notebook PCs with Windows Vista. Understanding battery charging issues If the notebook battery is not charging or the notebook does not indicate that the battery is charging, the most likely scenario is that the hp 4520s battery itself is operating correctly, but its power management software may have become corrupt. The problem is not in HP actually Window Vista did that for many other brands too.I did what HP said, but it didn’t workout for me. My HP Laptop battery did not charge.

Finally after a lot of research, I did the following:

Run HP live and support on your laptop.

Click on check Battery Health.

See if there is any Genuine fault in your hp 6710b battery.

If its shows OK or good, Goto the HP website.

Click on the driver updates for your HP Laptop.

Check your laptop series, its mentioned under your laptop.

Update your BIOS.

Once your BIOS is updated, Restart your Laptop.

You will now notice that the Laptop Battery has again started charging.

Yes it works! It worked for me!

Allow your battery to completely charge.

Don’t switch on your laptop till the battery charges completely.

Finally your ‘Plugged In, Not Charging’ issue will be over in Vista. I wonder who is at fault HP who cannot handle Vista or Windows who created Vista which don’t allow Laptop’s to handle them.

Flashing orange dell laptop battery light

“I am having a strange problem with my XPS M1530…My dell xps m1530 battery charging light is doing a series of 3 or 4 orange blinks then green, regardless of it being on laptop battery or Laptop AC power adapter.
I have tried recalibrating, popping the dell xps m1530 battery out, and nothing seems to be fixing it.
Does anyone know what is causing this? Surely, not my 9-cell going bad after only 6 months I hope?”
“I have a Dell Studio 1535 and it is doing the same thing. The battery light was working normally until the battery ran completely out. Now the battery charges (to full power), and the computer works on both dell studio 1535 battery and outlet power – BUT the red warning light flashes when ever the computer is turned on – and even when it is turned off IF the power cord is plugged in. We ran a diagnostic test on the battery and it said everything was normal. We ran the studio 1537 battery down again and also recharged it. Still the red warning light flashes incessantly. ”

Solution 1:”check this out: http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?c=us&l=en&s=gen&docid=DSN_12FCCAA558727884E0401E0A55172D6B&isLegacy=true
next, remove the dell inspiron 1545 battery. there is a button there with five LEDs beside it.
press and hold down the button and check which LEDs are lit. an error code here will help Dell tech support determine if oyu would need a battery replacement.”

Solution 2:” I had the 4 orange/red flash and 1 green flash dashboard dell xps m1530 battery indicator light dilemma and fixed the problem!! – By unplugging the AC power cord and allowing the battery to completely drain out. I even restarted the computer to drain out any residual energy the battery might have contained to ensure the beast was dead. After doing so I plugged the AC power cord back in, started the laptop and the light no longer flashed like a banshee. It is now recharging and doing fine. ”

Solution 3:”i also had this problem. notice i said had. This is what i did to fix it.
1. Let the battery run completely dead. (Make sure all your work is saved)
2. Fully charge battery (You may still have flashing lights but if you turn your computer on and enter BIOS you can see the charge level)
3. Once again run battery dead.
4. Remove laptop battery and wait 5-10 minutes.
5. Replace battery and use in normal operation.

This worked for me. Also a note on why it sometimes does not fix even with a new xps m1530 battery. It seems that the battery is holding a charge but the level indicator is not properly communicating with the computer, therefore getting an error code. If you purchased a new battery, this process should clear the error. Hope all works out for everyone.”

HP Laptop Battery Does’t Charge

Posted by admin on May 12th, 2011

Question :”our online shop has a client that complains that their hp laptop doesn’t charge. Is there anyway to pinpoint whether its the laptop battery or the laptop, without having to buy an extra battery to test with?

The unit is a hp laptop. I’ll find out the specific model number when they bring the unit it later today or tommorrow.”

Customer You can see the follow soultion and choose the right method.

Solution 1:”

Well, for one, if you are good with a multi meter you can check to see if the contacts are working and charging. Check the hp probook 4520s battery, the contacts of the unit and the contacts of the battery—make sure the pins have ample spring or resistance enough to make good contact (they get worn).

You can see if the unit runs w/out the hp laptop battery just on AC.

Our custmoer you should confirm how old the unit is and if they leave the battery in every time they hook up to the wall as well—in this case the battery probably had all the life cycles it had available used up—especially if the unit has some age and/or wear or both. Some computer systems cycle through the battery even when the AC is used if the battery is not dislodged—this is still a wear on the battery and cycles it through what ever life it had—they only have so many.

More than likely it is a bad battery—or used up: More than likely if it runs on laptop AC adapter without the battery installed or with the battery installed and the battery just tests out with little or no current then it’s just an old battery.

There is more but you get the idea. check for known issues with the unit as well.

Regardless, I think it safe to hazard a guess that the hp prbook 4320s battery is just dead if the criteria above have been met.

Other than that, yep, you can try another battery.”
Solution 2:”

Hey, Dude…you know how you reread something and some after thought thing happens and some little piece of your memory suddenly jolts you with some bit of forgotten trivia?

Okay, I’m rereading what I posted you about the hp AC Adapter: Then, I remembered a long term client of mine named Nestor. (Yea, Spanish)

Anyway, his problems were EXACTLY like yours. Same issue with the battery, low power indications, ect, ect.. This was an HP as well—I may be able to get the model number for it later if it is important to you.

I thought it was a bad AC adapter too just as you do.

But guess what? Instead of buying the adapter, and because his system had some wear and age as far as the HP EliteBook 6930p battery goes, I had him buy the battery first because he said the battery would not last as long as it used to—I talked with him about life cycles of a battery and thus we agreed to get the battery replacement if for no other reason than to have a back up battery since he used it on battery often.

Here is the thing: The new hp compaq 6735b battery came in. We charged it in the system. I just let it sit there for half a day. I went back to it and it worked: EVERY thing worked.

So, in this case the battery not being functional and the system not working that way meant that the laptop batteries had to be in place for power to cycle correctly. Go figure.

I know, it throws a wrench in what could be simple but I did think to let you know I had remembered that situation.

Laptop plugged in not charging

Posted by admin on May 6th, 2011

Question:”Hi I bought a Dell Inspiron 1525 just over a week ago. I have only used the laptop when it has been plugged in but the dell inspiron 1525 battery charge is slowly going down and is now showing only 61% charge.

The battery icon says – ‘plugged in, not charging'”

Answer:”

Try this first:”
Providing your inspiron 1525 battery is not dead these few simple steps will work.

1. remove battery.

2.start laptop and login (obviously plugged into the mains).

3.now shutdown the laptop.

4.put the dell laptop battery back in

5. start the laptop and login again

you will now find the battery is chargin

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 1525.

About 1 month ago I noticed that my computer would automatically shut down when the power cord was removed, I hovered over the laptop battery icon in the bottom right corner and it said 0% available plugged in, not charging.

I Googled the phrase plugged in, not charging and realised lots of people were having the same problem.

I have tried

• restarting and shutting down my computer (with and without battery and with and without dell inspiron 1525 power supply)

• removing and replacing my battery (while laptop is on and off)

• a replacement battery from Dell

• my sister’s battery and power cord (she also has a 1525)in my laptop and get the message plugged in, not charging. My battery in her laptop will charge but my power cord in her laptop says plugged in, not charging

• removing the battery with the laptop on then restarting the laptop and replacing the dell inspiron 1525 battery

• uninstalling and reinstalling the Power Management Software

• switching between power plans

• flashing with current bios

All 3 batteries (hers, my original and my replacement dell inspiron 1545 battery) have adequate charge (50% or higher)

I run with Windows Vista Home Basic edition

I have been to the local Dell distributer and they tell me to call Dell. I have tried calling Dell but I keep getting put on hold for 30+ minutes. I tried to Chat online with a Dell representative but keep getting the message All chat representatives are currently busy assisting other customers or the queue is closed.

I just had a phone call from the Dell Online Techician. He said to;

Shut Down the laptop.

Press the power button then tap the F2 key until a blue screen appears.

On the left sided menu arrow down to Battery Info.

On the right side of the screen my computer showed

• Battery Status = idol

• Battery % Charged = 99%

• AC Adaptor = Unknown Device Installed

He then told me that he’s have to post me a new dell ac adaptor, so fingers crossed that this will solve my problem!”
