Question:”i had a inspiron 1545 laptop 1 year, now the laptop has a problem: “Battery is plugged in, not charging”, I have read from a lot of places that, my adapter has probably gone bad, should i look into buying a new Dell Inspiron 1545 AC Adapter?”

Answer:”

1.-check the system battery information and charger information of the computer; restart the computer, while the computer is booting up, press F2 repeatedly; check “battery info”

-if it stated dell inspiron 1545 adapter = unknown device ; update the BIOS

NOTE:other computers may have different BIOS, if it is not the same you may have to consult manufacturer

-click on drivers and downloads

-click or choose by service tag

-download the BIOS and install it on the computer)

-check information after updating; if same message dell inspiron 1545 charger= unknown device; call manufaturer for a replacement AC adapter, if status has changed it is a battery problem or motherboard, contact manufacturer to test battery

2. Check the AC adapter – it should have 19volts DC with at least 90 watts output. If it is less than 19 volts or if it is less than 90 watts it may power the laptop up, but not charge it.

Remove the battery. Plug in the Dell PA-21 Adapter. Turn on computer. If the computer won’t start up only on AC power, you’re toast. Try with their original AC adapter, or call around for your friends – MOST Dells use the same power adapter. Try an original adapter of at least 90 watts.

If it boots, go into the BIOS setup using the F2 key. Go into the POST Behavior screen. Look for Dell PA-21 Adapter. This setting either warns you the power supply is inadequate or doesn’t. Make sure it is enabled. Reboot, do you get a warning message on bootup that the Laptop power supply is inadequate?
