Dell XPS M1330 battery not detected

Dell XPS M1330 battery not detected
Question:”Today suddenly my xps m1330 went down and only power LED was started flashing blue/orange. I presumed that it was due to unknowingly power source was disconnected and now battery is also drained.

I checked the power source and restarted the PC. But still the orange LED was flashing. Checked the dell xps m1330 battery status in BIOS and in windows as well: its shows 99% percent charged. So to test the battery I just removed power sources but again PC went down :(

Now the situation is that both BIOS & Windows says there is no xps m1330 battery in the system. Where both at this location it was saying that battery was charged 99%. So I just diagnosed system with In built utility and it returns error code 0146 2000-0146. Seems this error is reflection to disk issue.

Still pc is running with AC power source but can not able sustain for a second on laptop battery. I am thinking this should be H/W issue but it would be great help if anybody has solution or workaround for this issue.”

Same Problem:”In my task bar, my battery icon has an X through it and it is telling me that my battery is not being detected. I have no problems with the power cord. And I have not had any error messages, I can run my XPS M1330 off the battery. A diagnostic check says everything is fine, with the pc and the battery. What is going on?”

Solution:
“The error code 0146 and the battery are two separate problems. First the dell xps m1330 battery problem is simple, it’s bad and needs replaced. It being bad can refer to a developed short, a fail safe kicked in, or it’s simply worn out. It is a battery after all, ad they don’t last forever, the more you use them the quicker they wear out. A bad battery causing an issue is vary common with Dell machines, and a false battery reading with a failing battery is also common. The orange flashing battery light is the indicator that the dell xps m1330 battery isn’t working properly, either by fail safe or wear.

The error code 0146 Is from the short test on the hard drive and indicates the a sector is going bad, and eventually the hard drive is going to fail. At this point, your hard drive may last days, or months. Either way, I suggest that you back up all important data, and purchase a new hard drive for the imminent failure. You might even go ahead and set it up, this way you’ll be prepared when it does go, and you won’t have any downtime. ”

Sony VGP-BPS2C battery buying tips

Look at the Sony laptop battery appearance

When We buy notebook battery (such as purchase a Sony VGP-BPS2C battery from a online store)should to check carefully whether the battery’s shell is a good process, the edge of the battery is fine, the print is clearly or not. There was a clear distinction between genuine and the fake in details. If convenient, use BatteryMon to detect the laptop battery manufacturer and part number. Here we proposed to bring your original battery when buy the replacement battery, and compare with the original carefully.

2.selected a Sony VGP-BPS2C battery through the smell

If you are sensitive to odor, you can try to smell. There are kind of factory-specific flavor in the new original batteries and the compatible batteries (similar to sandalwood, I believe more accurate that this is a plastic smell), and the specific odor is not a common perfume scent that can be replicated. But if the battery is renovated, because used many times, the counterfeit batteries have no smell, used the adhesive to agglutinate the battery cells together, there will be irritating odor

3.selection Sony VGP-BPS2C battery from weight

The weight of notebook batteries is directly proportional to the quality , you can compare the weight to the original battery. It is necessary to pay your attention if it’s lighter than the original battery. Of course, sometimes this approach is not very accurate, for example: the old battery of nickel-metal hydride battery cells.

4.According to the warranty period to authentication

If the warranty period is not more than six months,we should be careful, because of consumables belonging to the battery, recharging is a constant, with many times, general speaking, the counterfeit batteries will drop the endurance performance after a month or two, will can not be recharged. It can be said that according to the warranty period to judge whether the battery is a new or not, at least to judge whether the battery cells is new or not.

Apple iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 Battery Exchange Program

Posted by admin on February 15th, 2010

Apple has determined that certain laptop batteries containing Sony’s production pose a security risk, it may lead to economic overheating, the rare cells.

A recent Apple report holds precious information about certain iBook and PowerBook lithium-ion batteries containing cells manufactured by Sony Corporation that tend to heat up under rare circumstances, posing a safety risk for users. The consumer electronics manufacturer has issued this apple laptop Battery Exchange Program for iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 users to be able to benefit from a replacement, free of charge. Learn more below.

Apple support posts: “Apple has determined that certain lithium-ion

batteries containing cells manufactured by Sony Corporation of Japan pose a safety risk that may result in overheating under rare circumstances. The affected apple a1189 battery were sold worldwide from October 2003 through August 2006 for use with the following notebook computers: 12-inch iBook G4, 12-inch PowerBook G4 and 15-inch PowerBook G4.”

As such, the company responsible for the upper-mentioned laptops is “voluntarily recalling the affected batteries,” initiating an exchange program (worldwide) to provide “eligible” customers with a replacement battery, for free. According to the same report, Apple is co-conducting the program with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and other international safety authorities.

To identify your power book g4 17-inch battery, remove it from the iBook G4/PowerBook G4 model you own and check the serial number. If the first 5 digits (of the 12-digit serial number) fall within the noted ranges, you are eligible… no, better yet, you really should order a replacement battery immediately!

You will also be asked for the serial number of your iBook G4 or PowerBook G4, to begin the ibook g4 battery exchange process, as well as the serial number of your battery and a shipping address.

Make sure your battery

Please use the following table to determine the PowerBook G4 Battery model and serial number for your iBook or PowerBook. If the first five well-known within the battery’s 12-bit serial numbers have dropped, please order the immediate replacement of the battery.

To view the model and serial number label at the bottom of the Apple MacBook Pro 17 inch Battery, you must remove the battery from the computer. The serial number is printed in black or dark gray, under a bar code fonts. See below photos.

The affected batteries could overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers. Apple has received six consumer reports of these batteries overheating. If you have a recalled battery, please stop using it and order a replacement battery immediately. Once you have removed the battery, plug in the apple AC adapter to power the computer. If you must temporarily use your computer with the battery, do not leave it unattended and check for signs of overheating.

dell inspiron 1420 battery not charging

Posted by admin on February 11th, 2010

Question:Dell inspirion 1420 battery not charging adapter not recognized?!?
dell inspiron 1420 battery isn’t charging.. everytime i try to plug it in i get the message “The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will run slower and the battery will not charge…” I don’t know what to do? My laptop battery is at like 0% so when the charger comes off accidentally my laptop shuts off. I called dell and the guy was a dick. ”

Solution:

I believe your problem is the laptop ac adapter because Dell has a build in mechanism to make sure the adapter is Dell before allowing it to charge the battery. However, even if the charger is Dell, if the identifier chip inside the adapter is broken, the laptop would refuse to recognize the adapter and stop charging. It seems that your laptop was starting to have the problem when it shows you the message that ac adapter cannot be recognized.

You can follow this Dell’s troubleshooting guide to try to get the laptop to recognize the ac adapter. However, it may not work for your laptop because the guide is outdated.

If the troubleshooting does not work, most likely, you will have to buy a new dell ac adapter. However, before you buy a new ac adapter, borrow someone else’s adapter to make sure it will charge the laptop and that is the problem for sure. I wouldn’t want you to waste money on a part that is not necessary.

If you do have to buy a new ac adapter, I would recommend buying one from www.laptop-battery-adapter.com, because they offer 1 year warranty and free shipping to all adapters at a good price. I think it is definitely worth it to consider buying adapter from them.”

The Dell solution about “Battery Won’t Charge at All”

If your computer runs normally on the AC adapter, but the dell inspiron 1420 battery won’t charge, please try the following troubleshooting steps:
1.Check the Battery and Connections:

  • Remove the battery from the system.
  • Look at the connectors in the bay and on the battery for signs of physical damage.
  • Check the battery charge by pressing the status button or image on the inspiron 1420 battery near the LED’s.
  • Reinsert the battery; push until it locks into place and the latch snaps back to the locked position.
  • 2.Swap Bays or Try A Second Computer:
    3.Flash the BIOS:
4.Try to charge a second dell laptop battery like your own if possible.

    Solution 2#

When powering on a Dell portable computer, you may receive an error message similar to:
The AC adapter type cannot be determined. This will prevent optimal system performance.
Strike F3 key ( before F1 or F2 key) if you don’t want to see power warning messages again.
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility.
The system will continue to power on after pressing the <F1> key, but the error message is repeated every time the system is turned on. Also, the system may exhibit symptoms such as sluggish performance or the battery does not charge.
The error message can be caused by any of the following:

    • An unsupported dell pa-12 AC adapter is connected to the system or docking station.
    • The AC adapter is not fully connected to the system.
    • The wall power cord is not fully connected to the AC adapter
    • The AC adapter or system’s AC adapter port is damaged.

Ensure a compatible AC adapter is being used.
Dell portable systems have different power requirements based on the processor type, system features, and configurable options. Use the list below to determine the minimum AC power required to effectively run the system and charge the battery.

Dell Inspiron 1520 power adapter repairing guide

Posted by admin on February 11th, 2010

you are experienced enough to do such repairs, following the suggestions below will assist you in repairing the power jack on a Dell laptop.
    1. Remove the wire from both the 1520 laptop and the outlet.
    2. Cut the wire at any point beyond the damaged area so that you can make a clean cut. It is best to leave at least a few millimeters between the damaged area and the cut to ensure that there is no damage to the wires you are going to reconnect.
    3. Desolder the power jack from your motherboard that you have already taken out from the 1520 laptop. Both the motherboard and the Dell Inspiron 1520 Adapter jack have to be cleaned properly and then soldered again.
    4. Carefully start to cut the outer plastic of both ends of the cut wire about a centimeter from the end. Do this gently as you do not want to cut the wires wrapped around the inner insulation. Remove the excess plastic.
    5. Move the wrapped wires out of the way, and gently cut the inner insulating plastic only a few millimeters from the end. You will only need a tiny bit of exposed cord for this inner wire.
    6. Hold the dell inspiron 1520 ac adapter power jack and carefully remove from the motherboard. When the power jack is successfully removed, clean the oxidized contacts with a sharp metal object. Apply a coat of solder to the contacts. Clean the Dell AC Adapter jack, and place the solders to all sides of the motherboard.
    7. Secure the entire connection with a complete wrap of electrical tape, and test your connection.

“Dell AC Power Adapter Not Determined” Problem and solution

Posted by admin on February 4th, 2010

The “Dell AC power adapter type cannot be determined” problem

This problem actually popped up on me a few months ago, but I was able to remove and insert the power cord a few times and the message would go away and I would be able to charge my dell inspiron 1525 battery. But as a month or two passed, it became more finicky, and I had to jiggle with it a little more, but still, I was able to charge my battery and use my laptop wire-free.

Now today, I’ve been trying all day, and cannot for the life of me get the dell laptop battery to charge. I get the following message when I plug the wire in.

"The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation."

Also, I think its worth nothing that a lot of people mention that this error message comes up while they are booting their Laptops, mine only comes up once Vista is loaded and I attempt to reinsert the cord.

So, I have tried another Dell charger, a 90W dell inspiron 1525 adapter, and the same problem does occur (My original is a 65W). I am planning on getting a different battery tomorrow to see if it is the inspiron 1525 battery, as this ones usable life was getting quite low, down to barely a half hour per full charge. My warranty, although I’m not sure of the specifics, was not expired when this problem first came up, but is now expired by I would say 2 months at the most.

The problem happens frequently at Dell inspiron 1520,inspiron 6000,inspiron 6400,xps m1330 and so on.

    Dell’s Customer service reply :
“I am sorry for the frustration, but I am 100% confident there is no conspiracy afoot to sell dell ac adapters by designing them to fail. We warranty those parts and designing them to fail would drive up warranty costs. If your ac adapter needs to be replaced, I will be glad to dispatch you one myself [out-of-date information removed].

To all others on this thread, if you would like me to replace your ac adapter, please contact the site mods here to get my email address. Then email me your service tag, name and current ship to address. I will overnight you all replacement ac adapters and power cords. Thanks for your patience.”

The Dell support solution about “Dell AC power adapter type cannot be determined”

    1. Update the bios (I have A01, A03 is out). Ok, but I can’t. In order to do so, you must have the battery and the dell AC Adapter plugged in or the update program gives an error and forces you to cancel.

    2. Motherboard needs to be replaced. Don’t think so, it worked just fine before on the older AC Adapter. Plus if they searched this forum they would see that that did not work for others with the same problem.

The simple solution about “Dell AC power adapter type cannot be determined”

    1. buy a new dell inspiron 1525 AC adaptor,

    2. Cutoff the connector, remove all the rubber from the connector, trim back and remove the covering from the end of the cable, (where the connector was cut off) then resolder the little wire back to the center pin, then reconnect the existing + and – connections from the cable to the connector. Observe good soldering of the wires connected back as not to melt the insulation of any of the wires. When finished use meter to check for shorts before you reconnect power. Also if you have any Heat shrink tubing apply it over everything you just soldered. Otherwise use Electrical tape. BE CAREFUL AND DON’T WORK ON THE ADAPTOR WITH AC POWER ON. AND DON’T FORGET TO CHECK THE POLARITY OF THE +++PLUS+++  AND —MINUS— WIRES.

    3. Go on EBAY an find a new cable that goes between the adaptor and laptop and replace it.
The all info is from Dell and getsatisfaction.com
