laptop can work without battery

Posted by admin on May 15th, 2012

Question:Will a notbeook work when it’s battery is missing but the laptop ac adapter is plugged in? … My sister’s laptop has stopped working and we think it’s because of the battery. before it stopped working, the charge slowly went down till it got to only 6% charge ability then jumped to 0% charge. I think it’s the battery. She wants to find out before she tries to pay someone to try and fix the actual computer. (if we know its the battery, we can just order it)”

“The laptop will work with just adaptor plugged in and the battery removed

however your issue could be an issue the adaptor causing the laptop battery to discharge as there is no charge getting to the laptops battery or it could be an internal issue with the motherboard

try just the adaptor if that works then replace the battery”

if you want to play and can plug the laptop to an electrical outlet, you should do so AND also pull your battery out.

Why? Because games are demanding on a laptop and get them really hot when you play for a long time. All that heat will quickly find its way to the battery and it will gradually affect its performance; the hotter a battery gets, the faster it will go bad and will see it’s ‘battery life’ reduced – read it will not keep its charge (your current 1h30min will go down).

The only drawback of doing so is that you will no longer have protection against sudden power fluctuations from your home’s power grid. Worst case, if there is a power outage, you might see your laptop die on you and you might lose some unsaved files or even [in rare and extreme cases only] might get some your system files corrupt thus making your OS unusable unless you format and reinstall everything.

So it’s up to you: if you want to make sure that your vostro 1710 battery last as long as possible and also give you the best ‘battery life’, then remove it from the laptop and use the charger. If not, then depending of your usage, you might expect to have to buy a new Dell T117C laptop battery every year or so….

A few last notes:

Even if not used at all, a battery while typically lose 10-15% of its capacity every year.

If you play a lot of games and it gets hot a lot; that will be much worst.

If you don’t want to use a laptop batteries canada for a long period, store it in a cool environment and at about 50% charge; storing a fully charged battery will also make it ‘go bad’ faster.

Why laptop ac adapter hot

Posted by admin on May 15th, 2012

“I just posted a question about getting a new laptop ac adaptor because I thought mine had been bent in a direction for too long that made it not function properly. I also noticed that the metal tip was extremly hot and so was the hole that I plug it into.

Anyways today I got the new power cord and saw that my computer wasn’t charging again. I touched the hole and it literally burnt my fingers it was so hot. So it has to be a problem with my actual lap top right?
What could be wrong with my laptop to make that hole so hot, and what can I do about it/ where can I take it? ”

Adapter Application

Laptop AC adapter is comprised of two circuits that make sure a steady, usable power supply for the computer or other device. A transformer lowers the voltage, while a regulator supplies electricity at a steady voltage, free of electrical “noise.” These circuits use a small amount of electricity and generate a small amount of heat. AC adapters are usually slightly warm to the touch. They may be warmer when the device is using a lot of electricity, for example if it is running and charging its battery. There’s no reason to worry about a hot adapter unless it’s too hot to touch comfortably.
External Causes

AC adapters rely on atmosphere passing over them to heat elimination and cool them. If the adapter is covered, for example by a blanket or rug, the excess heat is trapped and the adapter will overheat. Always keep the gateway ac adapter free from obstructions. If it has proper ventilation, it will remain at a moderate temperature.

nternal Causes

Adapters might be overheat because of the circuits in that little black box, such as the regulator, are malfunctioning. If the part has gone bad, it may generate excess heat and have to be replaced. The appliance itself can sometimes draw too much power from the Gateway ADP-65HB BB adapter, increasing the current flowing through it, causing it to become hot.

Solution:
“It’s unclear to me what exactly is hot. But anyhow, whether it is an “internal” (laptop) component that gets overheated or an external thing, you should go with your laptop and gateway laptop ac adaptor to get it serviced. You don’t want to risk fire because of that.
Especially if you smell that hot thing and feel funny odors.
It could be a bad contact with the power line (bad dangerous plug in the wall), it could be a bad wire (that again dangerous as it could spark).
You must get your pc checked by a specialist.”

Consider replacing your battery:Solution

Posted by admin on May 4th, 2012

“Are you getting the error message “Consider replacing your battery” in Windows 7 too often? Microsoft is already looking into the battery issues with Windows 7 and will soon provide a solution for the problem. In the meantime, you might want to try this temporary fix that will disable the error message.”

“In Windows 7 RC and the previous beta, I have been receiving an error message saying “Consider replacing your battery” “There is a problem with your battery, so your computer might shut down suddenly”.

I know for a fact that the Asus N53JQ Battery is good. It works fine in Vista, its only about 4 months old, it lasts 2 hours +, and even in Windows 7, it will last for the same time period as it did in Vista.

People have been saying (as well as microsoft) that it is the BIOS and it needs to be updated. Well, I did obtain the latest BIOS from LG, which is dated in 2009, and that didn’t change anything. I’m concluding that it is NOT the BIOS since vista reported the estimated time left of the battery just fine, even before the bios update, and I have the latest BIOS.

I ran the powercfg -energy command and it says that windows was not able to determine the capacity of the Asus N61J Battery, yet if I go and install the LG batery application, it will tell me all the information about the battery.

I even went as far as to try my friend’s laptop battery which is less than 3 weeks old, and it still gave the same error messages.

Please Microsoft, fix this issue, and if you can’t, then give the users an option to take off/disable/supress the blinking X that is on top of the power tray icon, and to remove both the “Consider replacing your battery” and “There is a problem with your battery, so your computer might shut down suddenly” messages so we don’t have to see that every day, since the Dell WU946 battery is in fact GOOD and works properly.”

CAUSE:
“This issue occurs on these notebook models, which were not originally designed for Windows 7, because the system firmware (BIOS) incorrectly reports the Design Capacity of the battery to the operating system.

The “Consider replacing your battery” message is displayed when the Last Full Charge Capacity is less than 40% of the reported battery Design Capacity. Both the Last Full Charge Capacity and the reported battery Design Capacity are retrieved by Windows from the system ACPI firmware (BIOS). On these older HP notebook models, the retrieved battery Design Capacity is incorrectly reported as 88,800mWh even though the battery’s actual design capacity is lower. This firmware error can then cause the “Consider replacing your battery” warning to incorrectly display when the Last Full Charge Capacity is still greater than 40% of the battery’s actual design capacity.”

Temporary Fix/Solution:

“here is a Windows update that will remove the incorrectly reported battery message for only the affected systems. This update does not change any other behavior on the computer and will not change the actual sony vgp-bps9/s battery life in any way. The update will only be offered if Windows Update detects that this update applies to your computer.

Additionally, provides a Battery Check Utility that may be installed as part of the Support Assistant. Running the Battery Check Utility will give an accurate view of the battery health and whether replacement should be considered.

The third-party products that this article discusses are manufactured by companies that are independent of Microsoft. Microsoft makes no warranty, implied or otherwise, about the performance or reliability of these products.

“The temporary fix for the laptop battery issue is to disable “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery” in your device manager and you will no longer receive the annoying message “consider replacing your battery”. The disadvantage is that you will no longer be able to see when you run out of battery. If you know from experience that the battery would normally last xx hours, then I would simply install a timer gadget and set up an alert every xx hours. To do that, I recommend the Windows 7 Countdown gadget.

1. Open up the Control Panel:

2. Uncollapse “Batteries” and disable or uninstall “Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery”/>”

dell inspiron 1545 laptop ac adapter problem

Posted by admin on May 3rd, 2012

Question:”i had a inspiron 1545 laptop 1 year, now the laptop has a problem: “Battery is plugged in, not charging”, I have read from a lot of places that, my adapter has probably gone bad, should i look into buying a new Dell Inspiron 1545 AC Adapter?”

Answer:”

1.-check the system battery information and charger information of the computer; restart the computer, while the computer is booting up, press F2 repeatedly; check “battery info”

-if it stated dell inspiron 1545 adapter = unknown device ; update the BIOS

NOTE:other computers may have different BIOS, if it is not the same you may have to consult manufacturer

-click on drivers and downloads

-click or choose by service tag

-download the BIOS and install it on the computer)

-check information after updating; if same message dell inspiron 1545 charger= unknown device; call manufaturer for a replacement AC adapter, if status has changed it is a battery problem or motherboard, contact manufacturer to test battery

2. Check the AC adapter – it should have 19volts DC with at least 90 watts output. If it is less than 19 volts or if it is less than 90 watts it may power the laptop up, but not charge it.

Remove the battery. Plug in the Dell PA-21 Adapter. Turn on computer. If the computer won’t start up only on AC power, you’re toast. Try with their original AC adapter, or call around for your friends – MOST Dells use the same power adapter. Try an original adapter of at least 90 watts.

If it boots, go into the BIOS setup using the F2 key. Go into the POST Behavior screen. Look for Dell PA-21 Adapter. This setting either warns you the power supply is inadequate or doesn’t. Make sure it is enabled. Reboot, do you get a warning message on bootup that the Laptop power supply is inadequate?

3.Try this:

Disconnect Dell AC Adapter

Shutdown

Remove battery

Connect AC

Startup

Open Device Manager

Click the plus (+) sign next to Batteries category, right-click all of the “Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery” listings, and select Uninstall In the “Confirm Device Uninstall” dialog box, click OK. (it’s ok if you only have 1 of these).

Click the plus (+) sign next to System Devices. Right-click the “ACPI Fixed Features Button” and select Uninstall. In the “Confirm Device Uninstall” dialog box, click OK.

Shutdown

Disconnect AC

Insert battery

Connect AC

ASUS AC adapter charger problems

Posted by admin on May 2nd, 2012

Question:”My asus laptop battery has been having problems on my netbook and after looking it up, I found out that the batteries for these things give out after about a year and a half. That’s fine and all and I plan to buy another soon, but just recently my Asus ADP-150NB D AC adapter charger stopped working as well. Is this because of the battery because there isn’t a shortage in the cord because when it’s plugged up, the blue light on the box lights up, but my laptop doesn’t show that it is charging or even plugged up. It’s not as if the cord is ripped or has been tangled and bent repeatedly. What is the problem and what do I do to fix it?

Answer:”Unfortunately, laptops can still break down internally even if the Asus AD6630 charger cord itself is perfectly fine. The “brick”, as we like to call it, is damaged internally. This unfortunately is something completely out of you control. Things “just happen.” The only fix to something like this is to get a new charger. The time and effort it would cost to attempt to fix the charger is insanely unfavorable. You should look into getting a new charger as soon as possible.

For a new charger, laptop battery charger is by far the best website I have come across in terms of having good products with amazing service.

I’ve purchased from them before and they are true to their word. Meaning, if the charger you purchased from them ever stops working, they would replace it for free, forever. So when the Asus N17908 charger I got from them about a year ago decided to just stop working, they sent me a new one for free.

Its definitely a great way one can save money in the long run and its a great investment as well.
