Question:”

We recently purchased a Dell studio 1537 laptop for my wife but since the day we got it (brand new from Dell) it’s had a very strange problem that I cannot, for the life of me, seem to figure out. I’ve tried looking it up with not much success, either.

When the computer is turned on but before Windows starts to boot up, I get this message on a black screen:

This system will be unable to charge this battery.

Press <F2> 2 times to enter SETUP

Press <F12> and Any Key to enter Boot Menu

However, the dell studio 1537 battery is fully plugged in and was brand new as of about 3 months ago. When I’m in Windows XP (Media Center) and pull up the DELL QuickSet software, it tells me this:

“Your battery can no longer provide sufficient power to your system and needs to be replaced.”

Again, I’ve taken the following steps which seem to point towards the battery actually being good or working okay:

– Tested battery using the push-button test on the studio 1537 battery itself and it gives me 4-5 green lights (can’t remember how many lights are on it but they all light up green), which I believe means that the battery is good.

– When the laptop runs on dell studio 1535 battery power it lasts for about 1 hour or so, which seems to indicate to me that it’s working normally, I think. It also seems to be charging while it’s plugged in, despite the weird error message from the QuickSet Software.

Answer:”Same problem here. Message appears at least once a month. Here is a little trick that I found that works.

1. Power up the Notebook with the battery installed.

2. Turn the computer completely off and remove the battery.

3. Power up the Notebook with dell studio 1537 ac adapter only (no battery installed).

4. Turn the computer completely off and re-install the battery.

5. Power up the Notebook.

6. The message no longer appears (at least for me it has disappeared).

7. Unfortunately, the message will reappear in about a month, and you have to go through these steps again.”

The battery was in great condition. When using it, I’ve been getting about 4.5hrs of life out of the battery – Thanks so much I love it!

What can I say, it’s a dell laptop battery and it works. The price is way out line.(IMHO) Nearly three times the price of the two after market batteries that I tried in my sons laptop, which the computer could operate on but would not charge them, thanks to Dell I’m sure.

Easy to install, and holds charge well. I also have the 9 cell dell studio 1537 battery also, which is good, but the design raises the rear of your laptop up in the back, because of the size/design the same with my daughter’s battery. “
