One of the most vital components of any laptop computer is the battery. You can purchase a laptop with a powerful processor and other top-of-the-line hardware, but if you don’t properly care for the battery, the laptop is quickly rendered useless. When you first purchase a new laptop or laptop battery, make sure you charge it properly the first time

Instructions

Battery technology has progressed relatively slowly and is a major factor limiting the performance of mobile computers. As a result, mobile computer users must be careful to preserve the limited capacity of their battery as much as possible. Types of battery for sony vgp-bps30 generally used in mobile computers include nickel-based batteries, and those using the newer lithium ion technologies. Each has different requirements for charging and certain restrictions that must be followed if the battery is to last the normal two to three years.

Lithium-ion, or Li-ion, batteries are a more recent technology than the other types mentioned here; they are also the most common in mobile computers due to their high energy capacity, low discharge rate and lack of memory effect. They do not require any special charging or discharging methods to retain their capacity and battery life; however, they must be charged according to a specific charging curve by the sony battery charger that is designed to work with the particular battery. For computers with this type of battery, full charging before use is not necessary. A close to full charge will increase the time you can use the computer on battery power, and you must use the correct charger.

Insert the battery into the battery slot of your laptop if it didn’t come with the vgp-bps30 battery already inserted. This slot is typically located on the underside or back of your laptop.

Plug your laptop into a power source and allow the Sony SVT-13 Laptop battery to charge to 100%. Most laptop batteries come discharged, or empty, and should be fully charged before use. Sometimes the battery indicator will show 100% after only a few minutes. If this happens, turn your computer off, remove the battery and attempt to charge the battery again.

Discharge the battery fully. Simply turn your computer on and disconnect the power source. Don’t turn it off until the battery is completely discharged. Allow the laptop to shut down by itself.

Recharge your battery fully again. After the sony vgp-bps30 is fully charged, it has been calibrated once.

Repeat the calibration process two or three more times. Your laptop battery is now charged correctly.

Most batteries last longer if they are charged regularly. Some types of battery require full charging before they are used and all offer better performance after they are fully charged. For mobile computers, including laptops, netbooks and notepads, following the manufacturer’s instructions for charging the battery is critical for battery life, especially when you charge the battery the first few times. Not fully charging the battery at this time may reduce the battery capacity drastically within a few months
