Find out if your Dell laptop battery is hazardous and potentially dangerous by following these simple steps. If it is, get it out of your hands and get a replacement.
Step1 Turn over your laptop computer and push the battery release (in some models) to remove the battery.

Step 2 This is a partial list as of 2006; however, there may be more:

  • Latitude: D410, D500, D505, D510, D520, D600, D610, D620, D800, D810
  • Inspiron: 500M, 510M, 600M, 700M, 710M, 6000, 6400, 8500, 8600, 9100, 9200, 9300, 9400, E1505, E1705
  • Precision: M20, M60, M70, M90
  • XPS: XPS, XPS Gen2, XPS M170, XPS M1710

This is a partial list as of 2008; however, there may be more:

  • Latitude: 110L, D530
  • Inspiron: 1100, 1150, 5100, 5150, 5160

These battery models are also compatible with, but did not ship with, the following systems:

  • Latitude: D500, D505, D510, D520, D600, D610
  • Inspiron: 500M, 510M, 600M
  • Precision M20

Step 3 Look closely. The dell laptop batteries were also sold separately, including in response to service calls. The words “Dell” and one of the following are printed on the batteries: “Made in Japan,” “Made in China” or “Battery Cell Made in Japan Assembled in China.” The identification number for each battery appears on a white sticker. Have this number available when you contact Dell to determine if your battery is part of the recall.

Step 4 If you feel you may have a recalled Dell battery in your possession, call Dell immediately and do not return the battery to the computer. Put it in a safe place, out of extreme temperatures and away from flames. Dell’s recall line is (866) 342-0011 Monday through Friday, normal business hours.
